Well said Senator Massiah

I would like to congratulate Senator David Massiah for his contribution to a recent radio programme about the future outlook of the economy in Antigua. Other members of the panel included Mr. Everette Christian and Mr Neil Forrester. Mr. Forrester as usual was very negative and gave us no hope. Senator Massiah was more skeptical about Mr. Forresters comments and challengd him on the occupancy levels that some AHTA members have reported. He said that although a particular hotel reported low numbers, they still had to recall staff. He asked how that was possible. He asked if the hotels contribution to the economy was proportional to the concessions that they receive from the industry. He suggested that the industry and the government needed to look at retooling staff who were laid off so that they can find employment in other areas and or would be in a better position if and when openings were available again in the industry.

Senator Massiah was a breath of fresh air on this economic crisis debate. You represnted the workers well on Sunday. Let us as a nation look for ways to get out of this slump instead of talking negative all the time.
